Deana Wojcik is cofounder and owner of The Mushroom Factory, a specialty mushroom farm in Detroit. Since its founding in 2014, The Mushroom Factory has received over $100,000 in grant monies and pitch competition awards. The farm has over 30 regular restaurant customers and harvests nearly 1000 pounds of gourmet mushrooms each month.
Before becoming a farmer, Deana worked for 10 years as a public school teacher, curriculum developer, and coach. This work taught her many things, including the powerful influence of what we eat on how we feel and function. As a strong believer in the power of food to create and nurture community, Deana and her partner Chris are proud to work alongside Detroit's urban farmers and environmental activists toward the creation of a food-sovereign city.
